The Covering Kids and Families Volunteer Program helps families enroll in Minnesota's public health coverage programs.
The Volunteer Program recruits volunteers through local congregations, labor groups, service organizations and community agencies in Minneapolis and St. Paul. More than 200 families have been enrolled in health coverage programs since launching the volunteer program.
To participate in the program, organizations agree to:
Recruit volunteers who will:
- Disseminate information to the families they work with or to families within their neighborhood about the importance of health insurance and the availability of public health coverage programs, and
- Be trained in assisting families through the health care program application process by attending a four-hour volunteer training course.
Host three or more enrollment opportunities each year,
at which families in need of health insurance can come to receive assistance in enrolling in the public health coverage programs.
