What is General Assistance Medical Care Hospital Only (GHO)?
GHO is a new program created to cover adults without children whose income is between 75% and 175% of the federal poverty level ($562 to $1143 per month). GHO provides coverage for inpatient hospital care only and eligible patients must apply for the program at the time of the hospitalization. GHO will not cover past medical bills and eligibility can begin no earlier than the date of application. Eligibility ends at the date of discharge. However, a patient may apply for GHO for an unlimited number of hospitalizations. This same population (adults without children earning 75% to 175% of the federal poverty level) is also eligible for MinnesotaCare with Limited Benefits (see under MinnesotaCare).
What services are covered under GHO?
Hospital costs and physician care during the hospital stay only are covered under GHO. No other services are included.
Are there deductibles for GHO?
There is a $1,000 deductible for each inpatient visit.
