The Minnesota Act to Leave No Child Behind is a comprehensive attempt to assure that all of Minnesota's children can enjoy the great Minnesota quality of life - that they all have the same opportunities to succeed and the support they need. Introduced by State Representative Betty Folliard and State Senator Becky Lourey in the 2002 legislative session, the Act encourages state investment in long-term solutions to ensure that every child has a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Safe Start, and a Fair Start in life.
Why now?
With a surplus of $13 million over the past five years, we failed to make children and families a priority. In fact, many funding areas critical to Minnesota's struggling, working families received less than three percent of the total surplus dollars allocated from 1997 to 2001.
