The AmeriCorps VISTA will support the expansion of CDF-MN’s Youth Programs in the Twin Cities. These programs support academic success, build leadership skills, and promote community engagement. The AmeriCorps VISTA will work directly with CDF-MN Youth Development Director to promote the expansion of the CDF Freedom Schools® program with school districts and community based programs; support data collection needed for the evaluation process of the CDF Freedom Schools program and preparation of reports; coordinate communication and community engagement opportunities with CDF-MN’s Beat the Odds® scholarship recipients and alumni; and, support training, grassroots organizing and community engagement activities with CDF-MN’s Young Advocate Leadership Training (YALT). About 70 undergraduate, graduate and recent graduates intern in CDF's national and state offices each year. While a few of the internships give preference to certain majors everyone with a strong interest in child advocacy is encouraged to apply. CDF interns gain knowledge, skills, and experience to become child advocates and public policy leaders.
