Both the U.S. House and Senate have overwhelmingly passed a bi-partisan expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) in response to the 9 million children in the United States with no health coverage - including 85,000 in Minnesota. For a decade, the program has been important for low- and modest-income families who aren't eligible for Medicaid coverage and can't afford increasingly-costly private coverage.
