CDF SPONSORED EVENTS
What are KIDS COUNT COFFEES?
Each year, through a series of community forums around the state called KIDS COUNT Coffees, Children's Defense Fund Minnesota involves local communities in learning about the status of children in their area, based on the most recent data. CDF staff members seek to empower participants to share this information with decision-makers and the media. In the past four years, almost 70 Coffees have been held throughout the state, reaching over 1,500 people.
A centerpiece of the Coffees is the release of CDF's annual KIDS COUNT data book about the well-being of Minnesota's children. The 2006 data book, The Wonder Years: Early Childhood in Minnesota, focuses on children from birth to age 5. The book also provides a county-by-county profile of how all children are doing using 10 data indicators. Additional information is provided about demographics, why a particular indicator is important, and resources for more information. All Coffees attendees will receive a free copy of the book.
The Coffees also provide an opportunity to get updated about how children and families are faring at the legislature, as well as learn about CDF's other advocacy, research and outreach activities. All events are free. Of course, coffee will be served, along with snacks. For more information, contact CDF at 651-227-6121. We hope to see you at a KIDS COUNT Coffee soon!
