Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota Announces Selection of New Leadership
ST. PAUL, MINN – Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota (CDF–MN) is pleased to announce the selection of Amy K. Crawford as its new director, beginning October 17, 2011. Crawford will step into the position long held by Jim Koppel, who left the organization in April to become the Deputy Commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Health.
CDF–MN’s Advisory Board chair and Fallon’s founding partner, Fred Senn, expressed the Board’s enthusiasm for Crawford’s appointment: “We are focused on quality, affordable early childhood education and health care—two critical factors that are essential for Minnesota’s children to thrive in school and life. With her experience and dedication to helping all children succeed, Amy will work with our community partners to drive these initiatives to serve even more children and families.”
An accomplished and versatile leader in Minnesota’s philanthropic and nonprofit communities, Crawford comes to CDF–MN with more than 20 years of foundation and nonprofit experience, most recently, as the Executive Director of The Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation. During her tenure there, she led all aspects of the Foundation’s grant-making, strategic planning and community relations efforts. Her prior positions include serving as Executive Director of The Sheltering Arms Foundation, Director of Fund Distribution for United Way of the Saint Paul Area and Policy Aide to former Saint Paul Mayor George Latimer.
“I’m privileged to advance the work of this historic organization that recognizes the importance of investing in children above all else.” said Crawford. Given the tough financial realities facing families and the state, I’m committed to continuing CDF’s efforts to provide a strong voice and presence for all children and youth, especially those most vulnerable.”
Crawford’s extensive record of successful community involvement, both professionally and personally, has focused on improving the lives of children, youth and families. She currently serves on the boards of the Advocates for Human Rights and The Ann Bancroft Foundation.
