Broad Coalition to Kick Off Campaign to Raise Minnesota’s Minimum Wage

On Tuesday, leaders and members of a broad coalition of community, faith, labor, non-profit and service-based organizations, including Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota, will join with low-wage workers, small business voices, and legislators at the Minnesota State Fair to kick off a campaign to raise the state’s minimum wage to $9.50 per hour by 2015.

Lawmakers came close to achieving this goal in the 2013 session when the Minnesota House passed legislation with a $9.50 minimum wage by 2015, increases for inflation, no penalty for tipped workers, and federal conformity to work hours and family leave. The Senate passed a bare bones bill that gradually increased the wage to $7.75 over two years.

WHO: Workers, Small Business Voices, Leaders of Community, Faith, Labor, Non-Profit and Service-Based Organizations, and State Legislators.

WHAT: Kicking off a campaign to raise the state’s minimum wage to $9.50 per hour by 2015.

WHERE: Minnesota State Fair, AFL-CIO Labor Pavilion (Corner of Dan Patch & Cooper), Falcon Heights, Minn.

WHEN: Tuesday, August 27, 10 a.m.
