KIDS COUNT Coffee Tour kick-off and Data Book release

planned for November 10 in Minneapolis

Children’s Defense Fund-Minnesota (CDF-MN) will release this year’s Minnesota KIDS COUNT Data Book, entitled “Developing Opportunities for All Minnesota Children,” and kick off its 2015 KIDS COUNT Coffee Tour at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10 at Cookie Cart in Minneapolis. Policymakers, community members, and the press are invited to learn about statewide trends in child well-being disaggregated by race and ethnicity across children’s developmental stages and ways to increase access to opportunities to reduce disparities in child outcomes. Attendees will also hear from a panel of community experts about investments, programs, and policies that improve outcomes for all Minnesota children, particularly children of color and American Indian children, so they are able to thrive and so the state continues to have a prepared workforce and strong economy.

Every year, CDF-MN publishes the Minnesota KIDS COUNT Data Book through a grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The book provides state data based on a variety of indicators that show how Minnesota’s children and families are doing. The data serve as benchmarks of child well-being for policymakers and citizens and help to enrich local, state, and national discussions concerning ways to secure better futures for all children. CDF-MN organizes an annual KIDS COUNT Coffee Tour around the release of the book to provide policymakers and citizens from around the state with the opportunity to learn about the data and engage on improving child outcomes.

CDF-MN will hold KIDS COUNT Coffee events in Mankato on November 11, Willmar on November 16, Duluth on November 19, Owatonna on November 20, White Bear Lake on January 14 and Brooklyn Center on February 11. Events are being planned for Bemidji, Detroit Lakes and Rochester.
