Minneapolis, Minn. — Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota Executive Director Bharti Wahi says "the passage of the Trump-Ryan American Health Care Act is shameful and jeopardizes the health and well-being of all Americans, including millions of children and vulnerable adults.

"It is irresponsible and inhumane to vote on a bill that hasn't been vetted and threatens to strip families of affordable, quality coverage, including by destroying access to Medicaid and allowing discrimination against those individuals with pre-existing conditions.

"The actions of members of Congress today who supported this bill, including Minnesota Representatives Lewis, Emmer, and Paulsen, stand to hurt children and families. We call on the U.S. Senate to put a stop to it. We should only move forward with health care reform, not backward."
