Program Definitions

Paid Family and Medical Leave Program

State-administered Paid Family and Medical Leave Programs provide partial-wage replacement to employees for a determined number of weeks for selected qualifying events. Events might include the birth or adoption of a child or care of a seriously-ill family member. Programs are funded through contributions from employees and could also include contributions from employers.

 Earned Sick and Safe Time

Earned sick and safe time legislation would guarantee workers' rights to earn a minimum amount of paid time off from their employers to care for themselves or a family member when ill or facing domestic or sexual violence.
