Policy Priorities

Children thrive when their basic needs are met and they have access to opportunities that put them on a path to success. Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota educates the public on the challenges facing our state's children and advocates for state and local policies that strengthen families and improve child health and well-being. We pay particular attention to the needs of poor children, children of color and those with disabilities.

Investments in children come back to us many-fold. When we invest in children, we increase the likelihood that they will grow up healthy and become contributing members of our society, helping to secure the future prosperity of our state.

Early Childhood Development

Early childhood is important to outcomes in adulthood. The first years of a child's life are a time of rapid and critical brain development. Early experiences shape the architecture of a child's developing brain, setting the foundation for future learning, behavior and health.

Juvenile Justice

Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota advocates for the humane and rehabilitative treatment of all children in the juvenile justice system, and ultimately, for systemic reform at the local and state levels to ensure children receive fair and appropriate treatment that can prevent them from coming to the attention of the juvenile justice system in the first place.
