OUTREACH RESOURCES AND MATERIALS

FREE tax preparation services are available throughout the state to families who made less than $38,000 or individuals who made less than $28,000 during 2006. Most free tax sites open during the first week of February and run through the week of April 15. Free Express Refund Loans
AccountAbility Minnesota offers a 0% interest no-fee express refund loan and savings program to taxpayers that use their service. To learn more click here.


Order 2007 Tax Season Outreach Materials
Numerous free outreach posters, fliers and other materials (both hard copies and electronic files) are available to groups who wish to promote free tax assistance, the Earned Income Tax Credit and other credits and deductions. See below for ordering information.

A limited numbers of free posters and fliers that advertise free tax preparation and how to locate a free tax site in Minnesota are available for distribution. Printed materials are available in English, Spanish, Somali and Hmong (while they last). To order, please contact Bridget Anderson at bridget.anderson@state.mn.us or 651-556-6452. Alternately, please feel free to photocopy and distribute electronic copies of these materials.

"Make Tax Time Pay" Community Outreach Kit from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
This Kit provides a guide to outreach strategy on the EITC and Child Tax Credit, fact sheets and outreach tools such as flyers, posters and envelope stuffers to organizations planning to conduct community outreach efforts. A free hard-copy of the Kit will be mailed to any organization which requests it. Requests for the Kit and downloads can be made at the website, which also provides translations of an outreach flyer in 19 languages other than English and Spanish. Click here.

The IRS offers a wealth of free publications (posters, brochures, and envelope stuffers) about the EITC, the Advanced EITC, the Child Tax Credit and more.

6 Ways You Can Promote Tax Credits & Free Tax Assistance

  1. Display posters and distribute flyers in well-traveled areas like lobbies and community centers.
  2. Piggyback on another mailing. Include information about tax credits and free tax preparation services in a regular mailing to clients.
  3. Share information about tax credits and free tax preparation services during intake or case management meetings with clients.
  4. Include information or articles in newsletters and other regular communications.
  5. Host education sessions on tax credits.
  6. Share information with other organizations and community partners.

FREE Tax Preparation Sites
Free Tax Preparation is available throughout the state of Minnesota for low-income taxpayers and other with special needs. Most sites are open February 1st through April 15. However, a few sites are open year round.
