Decide On a Method:
Phone Calls: Even 5-10 phone calls about a certain issue can really impact how a legislator thinks and acts. Remember that your phone call can make a difference.
Letters: Here are some tips on how to write effective letters to legislators.
E-mail: If you choose to email, make sure you identify yourself as a constituent (for example, tell them where you live) at the very top of the message.
Visiting at the State Capitol: Want to visit your legislator at the capitol?
Here's how to get there and where to park.

Communicating Your Message:
Remember that elected officials have a lot of different topics to consider and can't master them all. Most of the time, you know much more about the effects of programs and policies than they do.
Try to be as specific as possible about your concerns.
Tell them when (and why) you like a policy and tell them when (and why) you don't.
